all children deserve the chance to experience the wonderful world of summer camp

SCI Charity is a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing the summer camp experience with children who come from underrepresented backgrounds. SCI’s goal is to create scholarships, or camperships,” so that children who otherwise could not benefit from the invaluable experience of summer camp may do so at no cost. SCI supports economically disadvantaged children and promotes a diverse community of campers at Camp Schodack.

Camperships are granted to a select group of outstanding and motivated children ages 7-15 who are identified in conjunction with Prep for Prep, an established and highly regarded non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities for talented and motivated youth from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Each campership provides full tuition for the duration of a child’s camper eligibility.

Founded in 2006, SCI Charity is a grass-roots 501 (c)(3) designated charitable organization created and run by a core group of Camp Schodack alumni and parents who are motivated by a belief in the educational and developmental benefits of attending summer camp. We are committed to enabling children of all socio- economic backgrounds the opportunity to experience the “magic” and life-altering impact of camp.

A Message From The Krouners

The Krouners have always been deeply committed to making the Schodack experience available to a more diverse population of campers. To accomplish this, we began personally scholar-shipping campers in 2004. In addition, Linda and I spearheaded the establishment of SCI because we wanted to give Schodack alumni and current families the opportunity to join us in this wonderful endeavor.

Our family will always offer these camperships because we have seen how it enriches the camp experience for everyone and we hope others, through SCI, will want to continue to take part.

Camp Schodack has averaged ten camperships a year – eight of them from the Krouners and two through the generous donations of alumni and others to SCI. The results have been spectacular in every way.

In all, thirty-two campers have received lifetime camperships. Six of those campers became staff, two became Head Staff, and one was recently a Tribals General. Strong friendships that began at camp have continued and grown; and more importantly, we consistently hear from the families who receive the scholarships that the Schodack experience has changed their lives.

We hope you will join us in supporting SCI and helping to share the joy of Camp Schodack with children and families who otherwise would not be able to experience it.
